We were delighted to read the news today and see Ulster Bank have included bats in their new £20 note!
The note also incorporates Derry’s much-loved Halloween celebrations in their security features – under a UV light you will see skeletons and Leisler’s bat, the largest type of bat in Ireland! Leisler’s bats sometimes called the hairy-armed bat or the Irish Bat is our biggest bat and it is often found roosting in buildings and trees. The Leisler’s bat has distinctive level flight at greater heights than the other species, from which it dives down after dung flies and beetles. It can be seen soon after sunset flying over open spaces such as parks and fields.
